The Avenue des Champs-Élysées, usually shortened to the Champs-Élysées, is an avenue in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France. The avenue is 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) long and 70 metres (230 ft) wide, running between the Place de la Concorde in the east and the Place Charles de Gaulle in the west, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops; as the finish of the Tour de France cycling race; and for its annual Bastille Day military parade.

Champs-Élysées
Walk westward along the avenue. The plane trees you pass were replanted in the 1990s; the original 17th-century elms didn't survive Haussmann.
Stay on the south side — fewer luxury-store tourists, more open sky. The first quiet block (between Concorde and Rond-Point) is the original landscape; everything from Rond-Point west is mostly chain shops.

Grand Palais
Glass-and-steel exhibition hall built for the 1900 Expo. The nave is 240 m long with a 8,500 m² glass roof — the largest in Europe at the time. Reopens fully in 2025 after a long restoration.
The southern entrance (avenue Winston-Churchill) is the grand one. Even without a ticket you can usually walk into the entrance hall and look up. Opposite, on the same axis, is the Petit Palais.

Grand Palais nave
1900 Expo's central exhibition hall. The glass-and-iron roof, the iron staircase to the upper galleries, and the Beaux-Arts mosaic floor are all original 1900 work, restored 2021–2024 to bring back the exact original colours.
Even on a non-exhibition day you can usually walk into the entrance hall and look up. The full nave requires a ticket — buy any cheap exhibition entry just to walk through the space; the nave is the point, not the show.

Pont Alexandre III
The most ornate bridge in Paris, opened for the 1900 Exposition Universelle. Four 17-metre Beaux-Arts pillars topped with gilded statues. Named for the Russian tsar to seal the Franco-Russian alliance.
The four bronze pegasi at the corners are the photograph; for the wide shot, walk down the steps to the lower quay (Port des Champs-Élysées on the Right Bank, Port d'Orsay on the Left). The bridge is at its best at sunset when the gold leaf catches the light.
