The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built from 1898 to 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Berthe Morisot, Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and van Gogh. Many of these works were held at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume prior to the museum's opening in 1986. It is one of the largest art museums in Europe.

Inside a converted 1900 Beaux-Arts railway station. Houses the world's greatest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings: Monet, Manet, Pissarro, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Degas. The grand-clock view from the fifth floor — through the giant transparent station-clock face — is the unexpected photograph.
Free first Sunday of each month. Bag the impressionist galleries on the fifth floor first (the most-visited rooms; emptier in late afternoon as crowds thin). The two giant clock-face windows — one in the café, one in the corner of the impressionist galleries — are the photograph.

Brasserie Lipp
Alsatian brasserie founded 1880. Hemingway wrote that he came here to eat "as well as he could" when broke; the pommes à l'huile and demi blonde are still on the menu. The downstairs ground floor is the literary one — upstairs is for tourists.
The waiter at the door decides where you sit. Looking like a regular helps; asking specifically for the ground floor sometimes works. The pommes à l'huile is still €12 and still the best dish on the menu.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés
The oldest church in Paris — first built 543, mostly rebuilt 990–1014 in Romanesque style. The sole surviving Romanesque tower in the city; the bells inside are 12th-century and still ring. The interior was repainted in vivid colour in a 2018–2021 restoration.
Free entry. Walk to the apse (back) for the painted ceiling — the central blue-and-gold roof is the restored medieval colouring. Mass on Sundays at 11; the choir is one of the best in central Paris. Outside, Café de Flore is across the boulevard.
