Galerie Véro-Dodat
Two pork butchers built this neoclassical run in 1826 and spent the money on it: marble columns, brass fittings, painted ceiling panels and a black-and-white tiled floor almost intact. Now home to Christian Louboutin's flagship and antique-instrument dealers.
Shortest of the central passages and easy to miss; pair it with the Palais-Royal arcades a few minutes north.

Galerie Véro-Dodat
Opened 1826 by two charcutiers (Véro and Dodat) who'd just made fortunes in cured meat. Black-and-white marble floor, 38 mahogany shop fronts, gas lamps converted to electric in 1923. One of the best-preserved arcades in the city.
Enter from Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, opposite the Bourse de Commerce. The Christian Louboutin atelier is at no. 19 — discreet, worth a look through the window. Exit at Rue de Croix-des-Petits-Champs and walk north.

1826 covered arcade in the 1st. Smaller and more discreet than Vivienne, with a black-and-white marble chequerboard floor and 38 mahogany shop fronts. Christian Louboutin's atelier is at no. 19. Ends the day with a return to glass-roofed shelter.
Enter from Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The small Café de l'Époque mid-arcade serves a respectable hot chocolate. Walk slowly — most of the shop fronts are antiquities and rare-book dealers, the kind of windows you stop at by accident.

Au Pied de Cochon
6 Rue Coquillière, opened 1947 to feed the workers of Les Halles market. Open 24 hours since 1948 (briefly closed for COVID). The eponymous pig's foot — grilled, breaded, with béarnaise — is still the move at 4am.
Best between 1 and 4 am — the room fills with chefs from other restaurants finishing their shifts. Order the soupe à l'oignon gratinée and the pied de cochon panné. The basement bar is open on the weekends and serves until dawn.

Louvre Pyramid
I. M. Pei's 1989 glass pyramid in the Cour Napoléon — the main entrance to the museum and a permanent argument with traditionalists.
If you're not going inside the museum, walk through the small archway under the north wing of the Cour Carrée — fewer tourists and the symmetry of the courtyard is the secret photograph. The southern arch frames the pyramid perfectly.
