The Galeries Lafayette foundation's commissioning space in a Marais building Rem Koolhaas hollowed out around a glass exhibition tower that physically moves on rails between floors. Free shows of newly produced work.
Open Wednesday to Sunday only; the moving-floor architecture is worth a look in its own right.

Jardin Anne Frank
Hidden behind the 17th-century Hôtel de Saint-Aignan (which houses the Jewish History Museum). Three small terraced gardens: an entry courtyard, an orchard with a chestnut tree grafted from the tree Anne Frank wrote about from her Amsterdam annexe, and a small kitchen garden. Inaugurated 2007.
Enter via the small archway at 14 Impasse Berthaud — there's no sign on the street; you're looking for an unmarked passageway. Free entry. The chestnut sapling is in the second courtyard, with a small plaque. Closes at dusk.

Centre Pompidou
Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers's 1977 'inside-out' museum: pipes and ducts on the outside, exhibition floors uncluttered by them. Closed for renovation 2025–2030.
While it's closed, walk around the back to the Stravinsky Fountain (Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, 1983) — sixteen kinetic sculptures in a shallow pool. The square in front of the Pompidou usually has buskers; the cobbles slope so a coffee at the corner cafés gives you a slight downhill view of it all.

Hôtel de Soubise
60 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, originally built 1375 as the Hôtel de Clisson, rebuilt 1705 in rococo style for the Prince de Soubise. Now houses the Archives nationales — and one of the city's most extravagant rococo interiors, the Salon de la Princesse, with painted panels by Boucher and Natoire.
The courtyard is free to enter; the interior salons require a temporary-exhibition ticket. The medieval Tour de Clisson — sole surviving fragment of the 14th-century original mansion — is in the south-eastern corner of the courtyard.

Tour Saint-Jacques
~62 m. The flamboyant Gothic tower (sole survivor of the demolished church Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie) is climbable only on summer-weekend tours run by the city. Tickets sell out weeks in advance.
Book at the Mission du Patrimoine site; tours operate Saturdays and Sundays from June to September only, 39 people per tour. A guided climb (1 hour, French) — they do open one English tour per weekend if you ask. Wear closed shoes; the staircase is cramped.

Le Marais & Île Saint-Louis — Medieval Paris, intactPlace des Vosges, the Pletzl's falafel, the Hôtel de Ville, and the impossibly tidy Île Saint-Louis. Beautiful and busy; the streets weren't built for the weekend numbers they now carry.
Best for: Walkers and romantics who want the storybook streets and will trade quiet for it.
