Eyal Shani's pita operation, transplanted from Tel Aviv, runs loud and fast on a narrow Pletzl street. The whole roasted cauliflower, charred and dressed in nothing but salt and tahini, has outlived the hype that first surrounded it.
Get the €7 whole cauliflower plus a steak or ratatouille pita; arrive before 12:30 or after 2. Closed Saturday.

Hôtel de Soubise
60 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, originally built 1375 as the Hôtel de Clisson, rebuilt 1705 in rococo style for the Prince de Soubise. Now houses the Archives nationales — and one of the city's most extravagant rococo interiors, the Salon de la Princesse, with painted panels by Boucher and Natoire.
The courtyard is free to enter; the interior salons require a temporary-exhibition ticket. The medieval Tour de Clisson — sole surviving fragment of the 14th-century original mansion — is in the south-eastern corner of the courtyard.

Musée Carnavalet
23 Rue de Sévigné. Free city-of-Paris museum dedicated to the city's history, in two adjoining 16th- and 17th-century mansions. Reopened 2021 after a five-year renovation — the new layout chronological and beautiful. Holds Proust's reconstructed cork-lined bedroom from 102 Boulevard Haussmann.
Free entry. Allow 2 hours minimum. Start on the top floor (Roman/medieval Paris) and work down chronologically. The two 18th-century salons on the first floor — golden boiseries, intact rococo plasterwork — are the rainy-day reward.

Square Georges-Cain
8 Rue Payenne. A small park behind the Carnavalet Museum, dotted with archaeological fragments — Roman columns, medieval gargoyles, 17th-century statuary — that didn't fit inside the museum. Surrounded on all four sides by Marais mansions.
Enter from Rue Payenne. The fragments are not labelled; this isn't a museum, it's a garden where stones happen to live. The benches under the chestnut trees are the local lunch spot. Open 8 am to dusk.

Quai de l'Hôtel de Ville
Between Pont d'Arcole and Pont Marie. The longest single stretch of bouquinistes on the right bank — about 30 stalls in an unbroken line. Eclectic, with several specialising in detective novels, vintage cookbooks, and postcards.
End the walk at Pont Marie. Stop at the corner of Pont Louis-Philippe — the postcard stall there has a card index of nineteenth-century Paris postcards by arrondissement, and the seller will look up your street if you ask.
