Little Red Door
60 Rue Charlot, opened 2012 — one of the first wave of Paris speakeasies, now one of the world's most-awarded cocktail bars (top 10 globally most years). Drinks are conceptual and themed annually; the menu is a picture-book that changes every year.
There's no actual little red door — the entrance is the regular wooden door at no. 60. Reservations recommended weekends. Order from the printed picture-book; the bartenders will explain each drink. Cash or card.

Marché des Enfants Rouges
39 Rue de Bretagne, founded 1615 — the oldest covered market in Paris. Named for the red-clothed orphans of a nearby 16th-century orphanage. Now equal parts produce and prepared-food stalls; the Moroccan and Italian counters at lunch are excellent.
Closed Mondays. Lunch is the move — three or four prepared-food counters serve actual meals at communal tables in the back. The Moroccan tagine counter is the local favourite; arrive at noon to beat the queue. Closes 14:30.

39 Rue de Bretagne, founded 1615 — the oldest covered market in Paris. Equal parts produce and prepared-food stalls. The market exists today because in 1912 the city wanted to demolish it; locals successfully petitioned the heritage office and it was saved.
Closed Mondays. Lunch counters until 14:30; the Moroccan tagine and Italian deli are the standouts. For a takeaway pastry, look for the Lebanese counter in the south-east corner.
